Metal prices have been skyrocketed today. Though there is no huge demand, the metal theft is on the rise for the money. Everything from manhole covers to rails are stolen. According to the scrap dealers, the people from whom they buy the scrap are stealing them later.
The material changes its shape, its form, you do not know what is stolen and it’s very hard to spot them. Police across the country have been checking and stopping suspicious loads in an attempt to clamp down the metal theft. However, 360 million pounds of metal scrap is leaked in a year.
Now copper cables from broadways, powers stations, and entire communication networks are being targeted by the thieves.
Demand is never been greater and that is reflecting in the costs. Copper prices raised 300% in the last 5 years and aluminum is up 75 % lead up 60 %. We cannot imagine the situation when the economy bounces back. It is really a good time now for the metal thieves.
