Mr Sajen Peter, Chairman, Rubber Board, has urged rubber growers and Rubber Producers' Societies (RPSs) to concentrate more on sheet rubber production in view of the current fall in price and demand of rubber latex. Considering the existing price of centrifuged latex (Cenex), the factories would be able to function without incurring loss only if they could purchase field latex from growers and RPSs at a price less than Rs 25 from sheet rubber.

Since the price of sheet rubber is now ruling much higher than latex such a situation has been created. The Chairman reviewed the position at a meeting of the Rubber Board Companies engaged in latex trading.

Diverting latex

It has also been decided to call for a meeting of RPSs having smoke houses and sheet processing centres at respective regions during this week itself and to take early steps to divert the field latex to sheet production. The sheet processing centres which did not fully utilise the installed capacity should ensure cent percent capacity utilisation, the Chairman said.
