Hindustan Zinc Ltd is planning to increase ore production at some of its mines in Rajasthan in order to meet increasing smelting capacities, a senior company official said. The company has invited expression of interest from contractors to develop - on a turnkey basis - its underground mines in Rampura Agucha and Dariba, both located in Rajasthan. "Work on these mines is likely to start by the first week of April once the contractors are finalised," the company official, who did not wish to be named, said. The company is planning major expansions in smelting and mining in order to increase its zinc and lead production capacity to one million tons tonnes by 2010, from the current 6,70,000 tonnes
