The Rubber Board is creating an 'Indian Rubber' brand to promote rubber produced in India in the international market.
Mr Sajen Peter, Chairman of the Rubber Board, told Business Line on the sidelines of a seminar in the city on Tuesday that the Board is in the process of developing an 'Indian Rubber' brand identity with support from the Brand Equity Foundation. The 'Indian Rubber' brand will be unveiled in Kochi in May this year, he added.
Indian rubber growers need to establish a presence in the international market and should export good quality rubber, he said. In fact, the Rubber Board would like exports to account for between 5 and 10 per cent of the natural rubber produced in India, Mr Peter added.
The Board also wants Indian rubber growers to benefit from the relatively higher rubber prices that prevail in the international market, he said. The creation of an 'Indian Rubber' brand should help achieve these objectives, he pointed out.
All those who want to export rubber under the 'Indian Rubber' brand will have to meet quality standards set by the Rubber Board, Mr Peter said.
Meanwhile, the Rubber Board is organising a series of seminars to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the introduction of its rubber plantation extension scheme in 1957. Besides Thiruvananthapuram, seminars will also be held in Kozhikode, Mangalore, Guwahati, and Agartala.
