Domestic steel output rises

India’s steel production in the four months ended July 31 rose 4 per cent after the steelmakers raised output to meet demand from carmakers and construction companies. Production climbed to 15.55 million tonnes from 14.94 million tonnes a year earlier, the steel ministry said in a statement on its Web site. Exports rose 7.2 per cent to 1.75 million tonnes and imports of finished carbon steel jumped 60 per cent to 1.45 million tonnes, the ministry said.
