China’s refined copper imports fell to 108,111 tonnes in June, down 7 per cent for May, as the market digested heavy imports earlier in the year, customs data showed on Monday. Net refined copper imports shrank to 92,540 tonnes in June, down from 100,009 tonnes in May, as strong increases in domestic refined copper output coupled with heavy imports in March and April combined to depress market prices in China. Net imports are expected to have shrunk even further in July, as importers faced losses of 6,000 to 7,000 yuan ($794-$926) a tonne during the first half of the month, while exporters enjoy better conditions. June primary aluminium exports fell 4 per cent from May to 13,805 tonnes, a drop of 82.3 per cent compared with June 2006.
