Spot rubber prices improve

Kottayam, Feb. 3

Spot rubber strengthened on Wednesday. Positive reports from the domestic and global futures and the absence of quantity sellers in the main marketing centres added fuel to the bullish sentiments to a great extent during the session.

Sheet rubber improved further to Rs 135 from Rs 134 a kg mainly on fresh buying while the trend remained mixed as ISNR 20 and latex finished flat with declines in volumes.

The February futures for RSS 4 moved up to Rs 135.91 (135.70), March to Rs 138.93 (138.45), April to Rs 143.05 (142.41) and May to Rs 146.09 (144.76) a kg on National Multi Commodity Exchange (NMCE). RSS 3 closed at Rs 141.11 (141) a kg on Singapore Commodity Exchange (SICOM). Its spot improved to Rs 142.31 (140.94) a kg at Bangkok. RSS 3 firmed up further with the February futures rising to ?272.5 (?270) (Rs 138.41), March to ?271.9 (?270), April to ?276 (?273.7) and May to ?279.1 (?276.9) a kg during the day session on Tokyo Commodity Exchange.

Spot rates were (Rs/kg): RSS-4: 135 (134); RSS-5: 131.50 (130); ungraded: 129 (128); ISNR 20: 130.50 (130.50) and latex 60 per cent: 89.50 (89.50).
