Cobalt prices in Shanghai rose 5 per cent from a week earlier, gaining for a third straight week, tracking price rises in the international market and because of domestic producer deliveries of the metal overseas, traders and analysts said. However, demand for the metal, used in batteries and aero engines, has yet to recover in China, a major producing country that supplies the world's leading cell phone makers, they added. Cobalt rose to between 310,000 yuan and 320,000 yuan ($45,360-$46,820) a tonne.
