Hindalco eyes output boost

Hindalco Industries Ltd hopes to raise its annual aluminium output by over six per cent to 475,000 tones in the financial year to March 21008. The company produced about 447,000 tonnes of primary aluminum last year, Mr. Sashi Maudgal, the fim’s executive president of marketing, said on the sidelines of a metals conference. He said output of downstream products like aluminum foils and sheets used as roofing materials was xpected to rise to 270,000 tonnes from 245,000 tonnes over the same period. The company is building a 1-15 million tonne alumina refinery in Orissa in a joint venture with Canada’s refinery in Orissa in a joint venture with Canada’s Alcan Inc. Hindalco has also announced a 325,000 – tonne aluminium facility in the mineral-rich northern state of Jharkhand along with a power plant and coal mine.
