Hindustan Copper Ltd stopped imports of copper concentrate following the shutdown of one of its smelters and re-opening of some mines, a senior company official said. ''We have stopped importing copper concentrate as we have shutdown the Khetri smelter since December and our captive mines produce enough to meet the existing capacity,'' Mr M. Samajpati, Director-Finance of the company, told Dow Jones. The company, which produced 44,000 metric tonnes of refined copper in 2007-08, imports 30 per cent-40 per cent of the 47,500 tonnes of concentrate it needs every year. Shipments were mostly from Australia.
