Steel prices in US drop 17%

US steel sheet prices fell 17 per cent this month as the US economy weakened, Purchasing magazine said. The average price of hot-rolled steel sheet, the benchmark product used in cars and appliances, dropped to $566 a tonne in December from $686 last month, the magazine said.
