Commodity turnover rises 36%

Turnover at commodity bourses rose 36 per cent during the first eight months of 2008/09, data from regulator, Forward Markets Commission (FMC), showed. Total turnover during Apr-Nov was Rs 33.16 lakh crore compared with Rs 24.38 lakh crore in the same period a year-ago, FMC data showed on Monday. Gold, crude oil, silver and copper witnessed the maximum volumes in the energy and metals pack, while rapeseed, guar seed, soyabean, turmeric and pepper were the highest traded agri-commodities during the period, data showed.
