World aluminium stocks drop 2.9%

World unwrought aluminium inventories dropped 2.9 per cent to 1.66 million tonnes in September from the previous month, the International Aluminium Institute said. In September 2007, the stockpiles of the metal were 1.54 million tonnes, the London-based institute said on its Web site. Unwrought aluminium refers to the metal in its basic form produced by smelters and recyclers. Including unprocessed scrap, metal in process and products from mills, the inventories were 2.99 million tonnes last month, compared with 3.02 million tonnes in August, according to the IAI.
