World zinc market in surplus

The world market for refined zinc was in a 108,000-tonne surplus in January to August, the International Lead and Zinc Study Group said. Global production of 7.805 million tonnes was greater than consumption at 7.697 million tonnes. Western world consumption, at 4.690 million tonnes, was larger than production at 4.516 million tonnes, creating a deficit of 174,000 tonnes in the region. Production for August totalled 982,900 thousand tonnes, up from 979,100 tonnes in July. Consumption fell to 987,500 tonnes from 1.0075 million tonnes a month earlier.
