World copper mine output up 26%

World copper mine output rose 26 per cent in the 10 years to the end of 2007, reaching 15.4 million tonnes, the International Copper Study Group said Monday. Copper in concentrates production rose by 21 per cent while solvent extraction-electro winning production rose by 52 per cent. Over the 10-year period, world refined copper production rose by 28.5 per cent from 14.1 million tonnes in 1998 to 18.1 million tonnes in 2007. This gives an annual refined copper production growth rate of 2.9 per cent over the period, the ICSG said.
