Copper output down 9.7%

India produced 99,101 tonnes of copper in April-May, down 9.7 per cent from last year's output during the same period, data released by the Mines Ministry said on Tuesday. The country produced 32,742 tonnes of red metal in May, up over 28 per cent from targeted production. Aluminium production for April-May stood at 2,07,190 tonnes, up 2.5 per cent from last year. Zinc output was at 86,395 tonnes, up 27.7 per cent, and lead production was at 10,705 tonnes, up about 8.8 per cent. India, the biggest consumer of gold in the world, produced 1.451 tonnes of the yellow metal in April-May, down 2.4 per cent from a year ago. The country produced 723 kg gold in May, the Ministry said.
