World steel output rises 8.6

The International Iron and Steel Industries on Tuesday said that the World crude production rose 8.6 percent year on year in February 2007 to 99 million tonnes. That was up from 91.2 million tonnes in February 2006, the Brussels based research group said. Output in china, which makes more steel than any other country was up 20.1 percent at 36.1 million tonnes, while Japanese production rose 3.6 percent to 9.2 million tonnes. January figures were 13.5 percent higher than the previous year’s. For 2006 as a whole total world steel production was 1.24 billion tonnes, the IISI said.
