Spot rubber rules steady

The very first trading session of the new year witnessed a steady closing in domestic rubber prices. In the physical front, sheet rubber closed unchanged at Rs.94 a kg both at Kottayam and Kochi lacking active market participation and global guidance. The transactions were in a low key.

FUTURES FIRM

The rubber futures maintained the same mood on NMCE. The January contract finished almost steady at Rs.96.43 (96.54), February at Rs.98.20 (98.22), March at Rs.99.65 (99.90) and April contract at Rs.101.40 (101.75) per kg for RSS 4. The open interest improved to 9,338 (9,050) tonnes while the volumes fell 586 (1,000) tonnes. The outstanding positions were 3,051 (3,057) tonnes in January, 3,857 (3,786) tonnes in February, 19,63(1,775) tonnes in March and 467 (432) tonnes in April.

Spot prices were (Rs./kg): RSS-4: 94 (4); RSS-5: 92 (92); ungraded : 90(90); ISNR 20: 91 (91) and latex 60 per cent : 61.50 (61.50).
