Copper tops $7,000 nickel nears peak:

Copper broke through the psychological barrier of $7000 per tonne on Tuesday, rising to its highest since December on an outlook of rising demand in China. Metal for delivery in three months, often used by the investment community as a key gauge of economic growth traded up to $7,188 per tonne on the London Metal Exchange, it most expensive since December 5. At $7,170 its prices at the end of Tuesday’s official trading session-copper was up more than 13 percent since the start of this year, but still more than $1,000 below the high it hit last may.
