National Aluminium Co plans to buy 3,00,000 tonnes of coal from overseas to ease a supply shortage for its smelters as it ramps up production this year. Bids will be called in the next few days, said a company official. The planned contract follows a December 1 procurement notice by the company for 1,15,000 tonnes of petroleum coke for its aluminium smelter. National Aluminium plans to raise its annual production to 4,35,000 tonnes by the end of this financial year from about 360,000 tons the previous year, former Chairman, Mr C. R. Pradhan said in June. Output of alumina, the key aluminium- making material, may increase to 1.86 million tonnes from an estimated 1.62 million tonnes, he said. — Bloomberg
