Teck Comnico Ltd, the world’s second largest zinc producer, said global demand for the metal used to galvanize steel will exceed production this year. Essentially it is going to be a balanced market but we are forecasting a small deficit, Mr. Mike Agg, vice president of metal sales at Vancouver-based Teck Cominco, said on a conference call with investors. Increased output by China, the world’s biggest producer will be used by the western world he said. China will remain a net exporter of the metal as production exceeds domestic consumption, he said. The country becomes a net exporter in 2006 for the first time in three years.
