China data lift copper

Copper prices rose on Wednesday as stronger Chinese manufacturing data helped lift sentiment, but gains are expected to be capped by a seasonal lull in demand.

Benchmark copper on the London Metal Exchange traded at $5,051 a tonne in official rings, from a close of $4,970 on Tuesday.

Aluminium was last bid at $1,644.5 a tonne in official rings from a close of $1,630 on Tuesday.

Tin was last bid at $14,400 a tonne against $14,150 at the close on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, zinc traded at $1,574 a tonne from $1,545, battery material lead at $1,706 against $1,690, and steel-making ingredient nickel at $15,800 from $15,350.
