National Aluminium Co said the highest bid it received for the sale of 30,000 tonnes of the aluminium-making material was $206/tonne, almost a third lower than a previous sale. The alumina is for delivery this month, the Chairman, Mr C.R. Pradhan, said by telephone from Bhubaneswar, where the company is based. The second highest bid was $205/tonne. Nalco sold alumina in the spot market at $287/tonne in October. Prices have fallen as demand from China, the bigger buyer, declines.
