The key Tokyo rubber futures contract rallied to climb above ¥300 on Wednesday, lifted by firmer crude oil prices, but it later ran out of steam and closed off the day's high.

The key Tokyo Commodity Exchange rubber contract for January delivery rose to an intra-day high of ¥301 per kg, up 1.6 per cent, before giving up some of its gains to close at ¥298. Four of the six listed TOCOM rubber contracts closed down by between ¥1 and ¥2.9.
